The Women’s Imaging Center at Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH) offers a relaxing, welcoming and private atmosphere, where women can have exams. Bone densitometry and 3-D ultrasounds are offered in the most advanced methods available. With advanced women’s services and diagnostic equipment, MRH’s imaging department brings state-of-the-art care closer to home.
At MRH, ultrasound technology is used for evaluation and diagnosis, guidance in surgical procedures, aiding in biopsies of pathology and OB evaluation. Breast ultrasounds can be used to determine if a lump is a mass or a cyst, which is especially helpful for women with dense breast tissue to detect cancers that do not show up on mammograms. The use of the Philips iU22 3-D system reduces patient exam times by about 30-50 percent, while capturing more data and better images to ensure accurate diagnoses.
According to the National Cancer Institute, 194,280 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed each year and 99 percent are women. In an effort to help women in early detection of breast cancer, the Women’s Imaging Center is equipped with a Hologic digital mammography system. This system has the capability of providing a mammogram that can detect subtle breast tissue changes during a reduced exam time.
Osteoporosis is a major health concern for women, but MRH can assist in early detection using its state-of-the-art bone densitometer. The bone density scan is used to help physicians measure the amount of existing bone and follow it over time. If a patient’s bone density is low, or decreases at an abnormally fast rate, the physician will be better able to detect any risk of osteoporosis.
