Services Emergency department

Serving nearly 8,000 patients and responding to 2,000 emergency calls a year, the Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH) emergency room (ER) and emergency medical services (EMS) are available to provide care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Joined together nearly one year ago, these two groups are the MRH emergency department (ED).

The emergency room

Staffed with five board-certified emergency medicine physicians, approximately 10 emergency medicine residents and 21 fully qualified support staff members (registered nurses and unit clerks), the ER is equipped to handle anything including cardiac arrest, stroke and trauma.

Many times, the first place that a patient will receive care is the ER. From there, if a patient needs to be transported to a different department, extensive coordination between the departments is key. When this situation arises, a nurse and ward clerk from the ER will contact the department to make arrangements.

Highlighting the compassion that these staff members hold for our patients, “While a patient is being transferred to a different department, there is never a time when a patient is left alone.” Mary Gallagher, RN, says.
