In addition to responding to calls, EMS provides volunteer standby for local sporting events, and other specific community events.

MRH EMS has facilities located in Brown City and Marlette.

What is ALS?

An ALS unit is the highest level of prehospital care available. MRH EMS provides ALS services within Sanilac, Tuscola and Huron Counties. With the advanced skill level and equipment of an ALS service, patient treatment is improved and recovery time is shortened.

What kind of equipment is included in our ALS units?

MRH's ALS units are equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. This equipment includes ventilators and I.V. pumps, an isolette, 3- and 12-lead EKG monitoring. Paramedics also have access to more than 30 medications which can be administered before arrival at the hospital.

Cell phones are available in each unit for direct contact with the physicians and physician assistants at the hospital, and the patient’s medical condition and treatment are recorded in an electronic chart.

Do I have a choice of which hospital to go to?

We respect the patient's right and transport patients to the hospital of their choice when appropriate. There are situations, based on the level of severity of injury or illness, that law mandates the patient be transported to the closest suitable facility.

Who staffs the ALS units?

All EMS' trucks are ALS units and are staffed by qualified paramedics, specialists and emergency medical technicians. Our paramedics have all had more than two years of EMS training. In addition, our paramedics hold certifications in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and prehospital trauma life support (PHTLS).

These people are some of the highest trained prehospital caregivers in the area. All paramedics who work on our ALS units also assist in MRH’s emergency department. MRH EMS professionals receive ongoing training and continuing education.
