17th Annual Tree of Shining Love

Gayle Miller's family

Our 17th Annual Tree of Shining Love Dedication and Tree Lighting Ceremony was held Saturday, December 3, at 1:00 p.m. at the Seton Cancer Institute Lobby, 2780 Main St., Marlette.

2005 Tree of Shining Love Honorees

In Memory of

Gayle Miller

Gayle Miller's devotion to her family and their success is what truly made Gayle a success. Married to Gordon Miller, Marlette Regional Hospital Board Chairman, Gayle and Gordon came to Marlette in 1958 and opened Culligan Water Conditoning.

Because of her dedication to their family's business, Gordon was able to contribute much attention to the hospital and help lead its future growth. Gayle often assisted the hospital with physician recruitment by hosting dinners in her home and promoting the Marlette area to physicians and their families. Additionally, Gayle served as President of the GFWC Altruesa Club and taught Sunday school. In 2001, she was honored with Gordon as Marlette's Citizens of the Year.

Gayle died April 25, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. During her illness, the Miller family called upon the services of United Hospice Service to ease her pain and comfort the family. They have great praise for the hospice staff, its volunteers, and the efforts they made to help their family.

United Hospice Volunteers

"Volunteers are not paid . . .
not because they are worthless,
but because they are priceless."

United Hospice Service is able to provide quality care for quality of life to grieving families because of its extensive volunteer base.

More than 180 volunteers in communities throughout the Thumb share the passion and vision of United Hospice, and have dedicated themselves to extending a helping hand to any hurting family in need.

Volunteers fill many roles including providing patient care, working in the residence facility, helping with office work, fundraising, baking and cooking, handyman skills, gardening, leading support groups and much more.

Their compassion reaches far and wide, bringing something very special to the many lives they touch.

Donations from the 17th Annual Tree of Shining Love will be directed towards a Hospice Residence patient lift and room decor.
