Dr. Duane E. Smith Memorial 5K Run/Walk Great Success!

MARLETTE, MI. – The Dr. Duane E. Smith Memorial 5K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in Brown City. The 14th annual event enjoyed outstanding participation with 126 entries, which raised over $3000 for United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital. The race was established to honor the memory of Dr. Duane E. Smith. The organizer of the event, Dr. Michael Ogboh of Family HealthCare of Brown City stated, “This is the most participants we have had since the race was established.”
The overall winner was Eli Poth of Brown City in the time of 19 minutes and 43 seconds, with Jason Muxlow taking 2nd place and Donovan Ogboh 3rd place. The top women finisher was Ellynne Volmering of Palms in the time of 22 minutes and 40 seconds.
Randy Foco, Director of United Hospice of Marlette Regional Hospital, thanked all the participants and volunteers for their support. He also stated that the funds raised from the Duane E. Smith race would be allocated to financially assist those patients who are unable to afford their hospice care.
Since 1951, Marlette Regional Hospital’s medical, surgical and emergency services have served thousands of people in the Marlette area. Today, MRH is a multi-faceted health care organization serving Sanilac, Tuscola, Huron, Lapeer and St. Clair counties. The mission of Marlette Regional Hospital is to continuously improve the quality of health in the communities we serve and our vision is to build lifelong relationships that promote healthier and more productive lives and lifestyles. |
