NEW CARDIOLOGIST AT MARLETTE REGIONAL HOSPITAL
Marlette, MI. – Patients in the region can take heart in the news that a new cardiologist is available to care for them seven days a week. Beginning November, Dr. Scott K. Huffaker, with Cardiology Consultants of East Michigan, will be seeing patients within the Medical Office Building, Suite 3, at Marlette Regional Hospital (MRH).five days per week and will also be available for hospital consults and coverage seven days per week.
Dr. Huffaker is a native of a small town in Southeast Michigan called, Morenci. In 1996, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University in Biology with a specialization in Microbiology. From there, Dr. Huffaker worked on a Masters Program at Wayne State University. He then went to Michigan State University – College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan being awarded his doctorate degree in Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. He conducted his traditional rotating internship and his residency in Internal Medicine at the Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan. Dr. Huffaker’s post-doctoral fellowship in Cardiology was conducted at the Ingham Regional Medical Center and at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit focusing on heart failure and transplant medicine.
Dr. Huffaker is certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology since 2008 and Internal Medicine since 2007. He is involved with The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Research Foundation and on the clinical faculty at MSU COM and MSU CHM.
Dr. Huffaker will now be joining Cardiology Consultants of East Michigan. Cardiology Consultants has several locations including Lapeer, with Dr. Jeffrey L. Harris, Dr. David A. Brill, Dr. Abdul K. Alawwa and Dr. Majed A. Nounou, all seeing patients out of that location. Cardiology Consultants is proud to have Dr. Huffaker join their group and looks forward to serving the Marlette Community.
Dr. Huffaker has extensive cardiology training in Cardiac Imaging, Invasive Cardiology, and Heart Failure. He is Board eligible in COCATS Level 2 training for both Echocardiography and Nuclear Imaging. He also is COCATS Level 2 trained in Diagnostic Catheterization and Transesophageal Echocardiography.
“The Cardiopulmonary Department at MRH has expanded its diagnostic testing services to meet the needs of its cardiologists,” states Vicki Meiburg, Sr. Dir. of Ambulatory/Ancillary Services. “Our patients now have the convenience of getting most of their non-invasive cardiac testing done right here in Marlette.”
Dr. Huffaker and his wife reside in the North Branch area, and together they have six children.
