MAYVILLE, MI – Thanks to the supportive efforts of Galen Smith, PA-C, area student athletes began their fall sport’s season in good health. In anticipation of the 2009-2010 academic school year, the Mayville Family HealthCare office offered sport’s physicals at a reduced rate of $10. Before the first practice began, each student athlete was required to have a completed sports physical form on file at the school.
There are two main parts to a sports physical; medical history and physical exam. The sport’s physical visit allows the student time to discuss with their health care provider concerns regarding their current health condition in relationship to playing sports. Typical cost for this service is between $30 and $50. Through the sports physical clinics, the Mayville Family HealthCare office not only provided the community a needed service they also reinforced the importance of physical activity.

During a recent presentation, Galen Smith, PA-C awarded a $675 donation to the Mayville Community School’s Athletic Director, Bill Hartzell. The funds represent half the proceeds from the summer sports physical clinics.
