Diabetes Education

An increase of just 10-20% over your ideal body weight can put you at risk for diabetes. Diabetes can affect men, women, and children and the warning signs are not always obvious. A high percentage of diabetes goes undiagnosed.

Some of the warning signs of Diabetes include:

  • Excessive Thirst
  • Increase in Appetite
  • Frequent Urination

Treatment of Diabetes can range from just altering your diet to daily medications. Your family physician will make an accurate diagnosis that will determine the type of treatment you will need.

Following your physician's diagnosis, an individual consultation attending a certified Diabetes Self-Management Education Course taught by diabetes educator will help you customize your lifestyle to manage diabetes.

Diabetes can go undiagnosed for years and complications may have already progressed. These may include:

  • Neuropathy (loss of sensation; numbness
  • Retinopothy (loss of sight; blindness)
  • Heart and Vascular complications
Marlette Regional Hospital's East Campus Continuous Learning Center offers "Speaking of Diabetes" events throughout the year. Each event will feature a speaker that will cover various diabetes topics. Please Call Melanie Campbell, RN at 989-635-4348 for more details.
